The town of Eu, home of Louis-Philippe
The château-museum of the last King of the French, its collegiate church and wooded park — a short walk from the estate.
A short walk from the estate, the Château d’Eu and its handsome wooded park tell the private story of the last King of the French, Louis-Philippe.
The town of the kings of France
Eu was the residence of Louis-Philippe, who received Queen Victoria here twice. His château, restored by Viollet-le-Duc, is now a museum: the apartments, furniture and gardens are open for much of the year.
A few steps away, the collegiate church of Notre-Dame and Saint-Laurent raises its Gothic nave at the heart of the old town, and the chapel of the Jesuit college holds the tombs of the House of Guise.
Around them, the forest of Eu and the Briga archaeological site round out the visit for anyone wishing to make a day of it.
